SO Theatre

 

The Associate Programme Theatre Company - Dream Bigger with abop!

 

An intensive project based performance company for young artists aged 10 -18 years of age. Designed especially for young artists who wish to build their skills and relish the opportunity to work with others with the same high level of talent and commitment. The company is suitable for gifted and passionate young artists who wish to develop their performance portfolios in preparation for further study, booking work, University or Drama School entry, or simply for pleasure to challenge their creativity and develop their artistic voices. ​

 

Meeting throughout the year during weekends and school holidays entry is via invite or audition only with membership of the company being for a period of twelve to twenty months. SO Theatre members perform full runs of full Theatre Shows from various genres: Musical Theatre, Plays, Site Specific Theatre and Devised work in their own Theatre, Performance Venues and Fringe Festivals across the UK.  

 

Company members will perform back to back shows throughout their membership culminating in a run at the edinburgh fringe as part of the edinburgh fringe experience company.

tefe unites talented young performers from all walks of life and provides them with an opportunity to explore their creative potential in a sprawling, diverse, and unique theatrical environment. Performing during August at the largest arts festival on the planet, The Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

In 2023/24 company members will perform in one of three shows, 3s6d for girls 14-18yrs, Salt for boys 14-18yrs and a musical for girls and boys 9-13yrs.

as part of the edinburgh fringe experience company 'SO Theatre'.

How It Works

 

This intensive project is designed for authentic, gifted and passionate young artists who wish to develop their performance portfolios as part of a 'rep company' in preparation for University or Drama School entry, booking work. Or simply for pleasure to challenge their creativity and develop their artistic voices.

For any young performer looking to gain the experience and depth of skills on stage this is a perfect grounding enabling actors to grow, adapt and change. 

As part of their membership young performers benefit from:

  • Weekday or Weekend rehearsals.

  • Holiday rehearsals.

  • Private & Small Group Tuition in Performing Arts Disciplines.

  • Extensive skills development to enhance creative thinking.

  • Unique Performance and Touring Opportunities of full shows.

  • Vibrant opportunities to represent school/college and home town as members perform in various locations, including festivals and the edinburgh fringe.

  • Access to facilities outside of normal hours where appropriate.

  • Careers advice and coaching for Auditions.

  • Long term support as members navigate their theatrical journeys

Rehearsals 

Junior Members meet on Saturdays, 9am-6pm per week, for 45 weeks per year. In addition to school/college holidays for extended periods, excluding a number of additional dates for technical and dress rehearsals.

Senior Members meet on Sundays, 9am-6pm per week, for 45 weeks per year.  In addition to school/college holidays for extended periods, excluding a number of additional dates for technical and dress rehearsals. As a rule Senior Company Members are not asked to attend weekday evening rehearsals during term time due to their educational, family and social commitments.

Examinations 

We consider these to be an important part of a participants academic life. As  such consideration and support is given to all company members sitting GCSE or A'Level exams during the rehearsal period.

Entry is via invite or audition only with membership of the company being for a period of twelve to twenty months.

 

 

Performances 

SO Theatre members perform full Theatre ShowsMusical Theatre, Plays, Site Specific Theatre and Devised work at Theatres, Performance Venues and Fringe Festivals across the UK. With their most recent show 'Bitey & Berties Grand Tour' performed across the UK, calling in at various venues including the Theatre on the Moor 'Sterts Theatre’, Liskeard, Cornwall, Shaftesbury Arts Centre and The Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Cast members are offered an opportunity to the perform at the the Edinburgh Fringe as part of the Edinburgh fringe experience. Additional Terms and Conditions apply.

Auditions

Young people audition by first submitting a Self-Tape, then attend face to face auditions. If successful young artists are offered a place, they sign up for the entirety of the project period and settle payment in line with the fee schedule.
